Integrated CCC, Aries Solution Streamlines Workflow for Managing Author Fees, Including Open Access Charges, Page Charges, Color Charges, and More, for De Gruyter, Institution of Civil Engineers Publishing, and Maney Publishing

Danvers, Mass. – Copyright Clearance Center, Inc. (CCC), a global licensing and content solutions organization, announced scholarly publishers De Gruyter, Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) Publishing, and Maney Publishing have chosen to automate the collection and management of author charges by leveraging the integration between RightsLink for Open Access and Aries Systems’ Editorial Manager.

The integration of Aries Systems’ Editorial Manager and RightsLink for Open Access provides scholarly publishers with a seamless way to collect article processing charges (APCs) from within the Editorial Manager workflow, simplifying the experience for authors while providing publishers with a robust pricing, discount and collections engine.

Aries Systems is an industry leader in editorial and production workflow solutions for scholarly publishers. Editorial Manager is the company’s online manuscript submission and peer review solution.

RightsLink for Open Access is CCC’s next-generation platform that automates the collection and management of APCs. Through a new application programming interface (API), it can be easily integrated with publishers’ manuscript management and production systems, helping publishers more easily collect Open Access APCs while letting editorial staff focus on what they do best – working closely with authors and publication personnel to produce high-value content for subscribers and customers. RightsLink for Open Access also provides publishers with turnkey billing and collections services, offers priority customer service to authors, and delivers detailed reporting to both publishers and authors.

“Our integrated platform ensures critical research gets published quickly and easily, despite the dynamically changing publishing environment,” said Bill Neuman, Vice President, Products, CCC. “We believe the CCC-Aries integration is a powerful solution for publishers, authors, funders, and institutions looking to address Open Access APC challenges.”
“We chose to work with CCC because of its strong relationships with publishers, deep knowledge of the changing Open Access market, and dynamic RightsLink platform,” said Lyndon Holmes, CEO, Aries Systems. “This integration is an excellent complement to our Editorial Manager product.”

Each year, De Gruyter publishes over 1,300 new titles in the humanities, STM and law, more than 650 Open Access journals, and a variety of digital products. ICE Publishing produces a wide range of books and journals sharing expert advice, leading research and best practice in civil engineering and construction. Maney Publishing is a leading independent publisher of academic and professional journals, specializing in materials science and engineering, health and life sciences, and the humanities.

In collaboration with the Association of Learned and Professional Society Publishers (ALPSP), CCC launched an Open Access Resource Center that links to the latest Open Access news, reports, industry whitepapers, webinars and websites.

CCC will host a “Town Meeting” Oct. 9 from 9:00 – 11:00 am at the 2014 Frankfurt Book Fair: ‘Open Access: Who Holds the Power?’ featuring Brandon Nordin, American Chemical Society; Ralf Schimmer, Max Planck Digital Library; Arend Kuster, QScience; Audrey McCulloch, Association of Learned and Professional Society Publishers; Dr. Niels Peter Thomas, Springer; Natasha White, John Wiley & Sons; and Frederick Fenter, Ph.D., Frontiers. CCC’s booth at Frankfurt is in Hall 4.2, E23.
