Why Regulated Industries Must Rethink Copyright and AI

In a recent episode of the AI and Business podcast, Roanie Levy, Legal and Licensing Advisor at CCC, joined host Matthew DeMello to unpack how generative AI is changing copyright risk management. Today’s challenge, she said, isn’t just about sharing content but about how we consume it, since even a single prompt can raise copyright issues.

Levy discussed “Shadow AI ,” where employees use unvetted tools that may expose protected content, and urged organizations to distinguish between input risks (using copyrighted material in AI systems) and output risks (AI generating derivative works). She also stressed the value of clear, AI-ready copyright policies and ongoing employee training.
