How Does CCC’s Advanced Research Services Team Help Researchers with Hard-to-Find Articles?

Most modern document delivery services can provide access to scientific literature relatively quickly, particularly if a document was published in the last 15–20 years. When using CCC’s RightFind Enterprise, researchers can search a database of over 165 million citations, or they can provide details they know about any document that exists to place a request 24/7. Alternatively, users might find the content they need in third-party databases, and they can also request this content with the click of a button.

Document Delivery with RightFind can boast immediate availability for 88% of the nearly two million items requested annually, often making that content available to read in seconds. However, there may be times when researchers need content that isn’t as readily available.

CCC’s Advanced Research Services

That’s when our Advanced Research Services (ARS) set us apart, enabling CCC to quickly provide appropriately cleared copies of hard-to-source documents. If the required document is not readily available in an electronic format, our ARS team steps in and works to source a copy while helping facilitate getting the appropriate permissions for the customer at their request.

From the researcher’s perspective, there is no need to place new or special requests or to contact CCC separately if an item they need is hard to find. If a document cannot be sourced immediately, the ARS team starts working automatically to get the content and rights requested.

CCC’s team of 20 ARS specialists includes qualified librarians and expert citation researchers who work around the clock to source and clear documents for customers all over the world. After 35 years of offering advanced research services, and with a collective experience of over 142 years, the members of our ARS team are adept at searching to the “ends of the earth” for the content and rights researchers need.

With so much experience in sourcing hard-to-find items, our team knows where to go to get requested documents and learns from each new request we complete. This means success rates continue to go up and turnaround times continue to fall each year. In 2023, CCC successfully fulfilled 99.995% of all requests placed, of which 98% were completed within 24 hours.

The ability to easily request any document they need and have CCC’s team of experts take care of the rest means researchers can better focus on their most important priorities. Thanks to ARS, researchers don’t need to spend precious time trying to find content and get copies. They can focus their attention on doing research and making important discoveries. It also means researchers don’t have to give up the search and decide to “go without” insights and context that harder-to-source content can provide.

And, of course, with rights checking built in, researchers using RightFind can collaborate, annotate, and check reuse permissions covered by their company’s copyright license(s) and agreements, no matter whether a document was available immediately or was sourced by the specialists on our ARS team.
