Tech Theatre Session
Publishing Revenue Diversification Through Rights Licensing
“Copyright” is about more than the right to create and sell products through primary channels; it includes the right to make copies of works in whole or in part in other channels and markets. For authors and publishers, understanding this critical distinction can lead to opportunities for new revenue sources such as licensing for AI uses. The failure to exercise copyrights can lead to lost opportunities, as market failures encourage both piracy and legal loss of rights. In this panel, industry experts will discuss why asserting your rights in today’s market is the best way to safeguard their legal and commercial standing for the years ahead, and will explain how rightsholders can effectively gain revenues and market insights through active promotion of rights in traditional and new markets.
Where: Tech Theatre
Date: Wednesday, 11 March Time: 13:15 – 13:45
The discussion will be led by Roy Kaufman, who works on copyright policy and finds new markets for copyright holders in his position as Managing Director of Business Development and Government Relations at CCC (Copyright Clearance Center).
