CCC’s Ringgold Identify Database, the leading organization persistent identifier (PID) solution, supports multiple use cases spanning the scholarly communications ecosystem including Open Access workflows, author affiliations, funder identification, and understanding organizations creating and consuming content. This expertly curated database services multiple business models and data utilizations. New models emerge over time, and existing models are periodically revisited and updated. Recently, the consortium purchasing model widely used for institutional agreements including transformative agreements and other Open Access publishing agreements, and since the late 1990s for subscriptions, has been reinvigorated by the Government of India with their One Nation, One Subscription (ONOS) initiative. As a PID provider which supports a wide array of use cases, CCC has included data about ONOS to help publishers disambiguate and deduplicate records from Indian institutions participating in this new program.
The Ringgold team has manually curated all records appearing on the ONOS list as of June 2025 and has added them to the organizational consortium as members. This data reflects a somewhat moving target as the ONOS list grows at a rate of approximately 250 institutions a month.
To date, the Ringgold data team has linked approximately 4,500 organization records to the existing ONOS consortium (Ringgold ID: 738610) as members, of which we created over 4,000 new organization records all tied to the consortium.
As with all academic Ringgold Identify Database records, the Ringgold data team researches and updates each record from multiple sources, and through this process adds a significant amount of metadata to the ONOS member records including, but not limited to the:
- Organization name (which often differs from its entry in the ONOS members list).
- Location and URL (where available).
- Subjects taught at each member organization and to what level.
Ringgold’s quality-focused approach to maintaining and updating organization records is especially important in cases such as with ONOS members where many organizations have very similar names which could potentially lead to confusion.
As the membership of ONOS continues to grow, we will update our records on a monthly basis utilizing deltas of the member list to accurately reflect the ONOS membership for all clients utilizing the data to negotiate and analyze their participation in this important consortium program.
