To support their transition to Open Access, The Company of Biologists leveraged CCC’s Scholarly Communications Suite to streamline their OA workflows and build a thriving program.
When The Company of Biologists began introducing open access (OA) publishing, collecting article processing charges (APCs) was a manual, time-consuming process. As their OA program grew, managing institutional agreements and their varying rules became increasingly complex, causing a significant administrative burden.
To address this complexity, The Company of Biologists became an early adopter of CCC’s RightsLink for Scientific Communications, enabling them to simplify APC collection and manage their growing number of OA agreements while providing an industry-leading customer experience. The streamlined workflow helped The Company of Biologists to launch and scale their Read & Publish program while reducing the administrative burden, increasing speed to publication, and ensuring a positive author experience. Within five years, the program grew to more than 300 agreements with more than 1,000 institutions.
To inform strategic planning as they continue to scale, The Company of Biologists further adopted CCC’s OA Intelligence. Their sales team found immediate value in the tool, which helps them disambiguate, model, and analyze publication data to create new agreement offers and model scenarios.
RightsLink offers improved efficiencies for billing and collection of fees, the ability to integrate different pricing rules including Tax and VAT rules through different regions and the ability to run customized reports to assist us in future planning.
