UKRI, a non-departmental public body of the Government of the United Kingdom that directs research and innovation funding, published the single Open Access Policy for research publications in August 2021, following consultation with stakeholders that began in 2018.
According to UKRI, the new policy aspires to being “as easy as possible to follow; …providing sustainable support for open access and better value for money; encouraging the development of new models of open access publishing; and supporting the adoption of open access in the UK and internationally. UKRI’s Head of Open Research Rachel Bruce outlines the policy and highlights key changes for publishers and researchers and Rob Johnson, Founder and Managing Director, Research Consulting, led the discussion. Participants also included David Prosser, Executive Director, Research Libraries UK (RLUK) and Ros Pyne, Global Director, Research and Open Access, Bloomsbury Publishing.
