The coronavirus pandemic has affected our daily lives in significant ways. Across the U.S. and in other countries, schools are closed, moving instruction from the classroom to distance learning models. We are aware that you and other rightsholders are taking proactive steps to address this crisis.
Educators in the U.S. are contacting CCC with questions about using copyrighted materials in their student lessons during the pandemic. In response, CCC is coordinating with rightsholders to authorize the use of their materials in distance learning models and other uses as required by the pandemic, at no cost to the user, during this time of emergency. Please note that this is not a request to deliver content, but to authorize U.S. school districts, educators, parents and others to make additional uses of materials that they have lawfully acquired.
The authorization will run through August 1, 2020, at which time we will work with rightsholders to assess whether an extension is necessary. CCC will not collect any fees from rightsholders or from licensees for our administration of this service. We will, however, create a structured form on copyright.com that will permit educators to record their use of materials and we will share all this information with you.
The scope of the authorization is set out below:
Our company hereby authorizes CCC to issue zero-cost licenses to academic institutions and school districts, from pre-school to post-graduate, and to individuals, to use our copyrighted materials in any way necessary to continue home schooling, online education and any other mechanism required in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. This includes uses such as (but not limited to) reproduction and distribution, display (such as through a computer), performance (such as reading aloud) and other copyright-protected rights to the extent we have the rights to grant them. This authorization is valid through August 1, 2020.
In consideration of this authorization, we understand that our company will receive information about uses of our material that CCC collects from licensees through its planned, structured data-collection process on such schedule as CCC can reasonably develop.
To include your organization’s materials in the authorization described above, please provide the information requested in the form below and click “submit.” We will then verify your submission before including your organization in the list of participating rightsholders. We at CCC look forward to working with you to meet the needs of educators and students in this difficult time.
By clicking “submit” the person making such submission grants the above authorization on behalf of the rightsholder identified below, and represents and warrants that she/he has the authority to do so.
