Trusted Researcher Identity: A New Path Forward with Ringgold Researchers

CCC’s new service Ringgold Researchers more accurately and systematically identifies and validates researchers, their organization affiliations, and their research-related connections.

Designed to complement existing researcher persistent identifier (PID) solutions, the service leverages a broad spectrum of data sources and provides a globally unique persistent identifier for each researcher. Supplied with information about a researcher, the service matches that information to researcher records with a confidence score and provides robust metadata including collaborators, publications, affiliations, and fields of study for each researcher record. The service, available as an API, is intended to be used with other internal and external data sources enabling publishers to more confidently uncover connections and patterns that can aid in the evaluation and detection of potential research integrity issues, as well as to:

  • Identify peer reviewers and guest editors in suitable disciplines
  • Identify potential conflicts of interest
  • More accurately inform funding eligibility for researchers under institutional agreements.

CCC is conducting a pilot with the Ringgold Researchers beta release in collaboration with publishers and service providers and welcomes discussions with the broader community on how Ringgold Researchers can support researchers disambiguation and identification.
