Speakers include:

  • Holly Neber, CEO, AEI Consultants

“Organizations are looking for the best strategies and content workflow solutions to help them innovate, compete, and more effectively demonstrate their commitment to sustainable development goals,” said Lauren Tulloch, Vice President & Managing Director, Corporate Solutions, CCC. “Standards are a critical component to these efforts.”

In 2021, CCC signed onto the SDG Publishers Compact, joining stakeholders from across the publishing industry to pledge a commitment to the future and dedication to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.

Washington, DC Morressier is now integrating CCC Ringgold Identifiers in its service offering to improve data transparency in early-stage research. As the ecosystem of scholarly communication becomes increasingly more interconnected, high-quality data is needed. That data is difficult to capture and manage without persistent identifiers, which enable data interoperability across the research lifecycle. Ringgold offers the industry-leading solution for organizational identifiers. The company became part of CCC in May 2022.

Integrating the Ringgold Identify Database, with its structured organizational hierarchies and metadata, on the Morressier platforms brings new efficiency to the research ecosystem by disambiguating data upstream. This integration helps take interoperability to the next level by powering early-stage research with robust identity management. Researchers who use the Morressier platforms will now be able to connect their outputs at every stage of the research lifecycle, providing timely validation for their work and their institution.

Jen Goodrich, Morressier’s VP of Product, described this integration as “a huge win for consistent research data. We will associate institutional data with conference activities and track research from the early moments that it is shared through its evolution to conference proceedings, journal articles and beyond. We expect this to have significant influence on how researchers and their teams are recognized for their contributions to science.”

“We applaud Morressier’s strategy to deliver new value through a broader implementation of persistent identifiers across the value chain,” said Emily Sheahan, Vice President & Managing Director, CCC. “CCC Ringgold PIDs are increasingly used across the scholarly publishing ecosystem to power interoperability and support data-driven applications.”

This integration takes early-stage research data to a new level, bringing connectivity, efficiency, and interoperability to this pre-publication research process. By integrating CCC Ringgold IDs with the Morressier platform, institutions, funders, and publishers will be able to track the research they fund and publish and gain new insights from early-stage research and accelerate breakthroughs.

Manchester, UK company Biorelate Limited (“Biorelate”) and CCC (Copyright Clearance Center), today announced a strategic integration. Biorelate’s customers will immediately have the option to access subscription-only scholarly article content in XML format licensed through and delivered by CCC’s RightFind XML platform. With this XML integrated into Biorelate’s Galactic AI™ platform, Biopharma companies can now work with the combined services to automatically curate biomedical data from millions of additional full-text articles, revealing previously unseen biomedical insights.

Biorelate provides biomedical insights and knowledge with its proprietary AI platform, Galactic AI™. Galactic AI’s innovative technology uniquely combines natural language processing (NLP) and machine learning (ML) to create a novel high precision knowledge graph of scientific data curated from literature, patents, clinical trials, and other sources of biomedical text. Galactic AI™ not only allows companies to build a more complete understanding of the current state of research, but also connects datapoints across research to reveal otherwise unobserved insights. This approach allows hidden cause-and-effect relationships between drug targets and diseases to be analysed, empowering analyses around mechanism of action, biomarker discovery and toxicology risks. The relationship with CCC extends these capabilities by providing easier access to full-text scientific literature in XML format.

A pioneer in voluntary collective licensing, CCC helps organizations discover, access, integrate, and share information through licensing, content, software, and professional services. With expertise in copyright and information management, CCC and its subsidiary RightsDirect collaborate with stakeholders to design and deliver innovative information solutions that power decision-making based on many data sources and content assets. RightFind XML from CCC provides customers with access to full-text scholarly articles in XML format across dozens of publishers with consistent licensing grants for this additional use of content.

Biorelate’s CEO and founder, Daniel Jamieson commented: “Today, to successfully bring a drug to market in a cost-effective manner, it is vitally important to understand how a drug works as early in the drug development journey as possible. What we are doing at Biorelate is giving people this understanding by curating and analysing data and knowledge hidden within millions of research articles. We are doing this in a way that no one has ever previously achieved and that is having a direct impact on the speed and success of drug discovery programs. Working with CCC will accelerate this process even more.”

Lauren Tulloch, CCC Vice President & Managing Director, Corporate Solutions said: “We are excited to partner with Biorelate and provide full-text content to augment the content already available in GalacticAI™. Our integration with Biorelate helps us serve our life science customers better, supporting their research and development while at the same time serving the publishers of scholarly content by enabling appropriate licensing of this content, which is so critical in drug development.”

With great sadness, we mourn the passing of Marybeth Peters. Marybeth leaves a remarkable legacy. Her vast knowledge of copyright law, and the diverse communities it serves, was the foundation for her leadership as Register of Copyrights and Director of the U.S. Copyright Office from 1994-2010.  CCC was enormously honored to have Marybeth serve on our Board of Directors upon her retirement from public service.

Marybeth’s career spanned over half a century, with over 40 years spent at the U.S. Copyright Office. She had the second longest tenure as Register, holding the position during a time of significant technological and legal change. She was a global thought and policy leader and a beloved mentor to many generations of copyright professionals and lawyers.

When Marybeth left the Copyright Office, we were privileged to welcome her to CCC’s Board where she was a Director for seven years from 2011-2017.  She served with distinction as a fiduciary of copyright principles and as a mentor and thoughtful advisor to CCC colleagues.

“Marybeth will be greatly missed,” said Tracey Armstrong, President & CEO, CCC. “She leaves an enormous legacy in the copyright community.  I was so fortunate to have known her, and to have had the opportunity to learn from her and laugh with her.  We at CCC join with those who knew Marybeth in celebrating all that she shared with us as a friend, a mentor, a teacher, and a leader.”

Sept. 13, 2022 – Danvers, Mass. CCC, a leading provider of Open Access (OA) workflow solutions, has launched OA Agreement Intelligence, the only agreement modeling solution that enables publishers to prepare, build, and analyze their OA data so that they can create and communicate sustainable and transparent agreements with their partners. The solution combines sophisticated data preprocessing with easy-to-use analysis and export capabilities.

“Constructing data-driven publishing agreements at scale impacts all stakeholders in the OA environment,” said Frank Pepe, Director, Pricing & Strategic Analysis, IEEE. “OA Agreement Intelligence transforms the agreement modeling process by supporting better visibility and communications to facilitate collaboration with our partners.”

Transparent, flexible, and technology-based solutions are more important than ever, particularly in light of the recent White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) guidance to accelerate the availability of articles resulting from federally funded research.

OA Agreement Intelligence helps publishers achieve scalability, sustainability, and transparency goals for institutional agreements. Pilot participants cited a range of benefits including time savings associated with manual data clean-up, leveraging automated affiliation enrichment through CCC’s recently acquired Ringgold data, accelerating the creation of agreement offers, adjusting deal parameters in real-time to drive customer satisfaction, and gaining strategic insights into historical OA business.

“With its expertise in OA workflow and agreement management, CCC is well positioned to help publishers address agreement modeling challenges and optimize partner communication through this new data-driven agreement modeling solution,” said Kate Worlock, VP/Lead Analyst, Outsell, Inc.

“Publishers and institutions have told us that siloed systems, manual processes and inaccurate data sets are hindering their efforts to efficiently communicate and arrive at mutually beneficial and sustainable agreement terms,” said Tracey Armstrong, President and CEO, CCC. “As new OA business models evolve, data quality and efficient communication of that data are critical for building and maintaining trust.”

OA Agreement Intelligence is part of CCC’s growing OA service suite, including RightsLink for Scientific Communications, the solution that makes it easy for scholarly publishers of all sizes to manage OA institutional agreements and collect publication charges. RightsLink for Scientific Communications is the most widely adopted, community-led market solution that simplifies OA funding management for publishers, funders, institutions, and authors. With transactional data from over 1,500 institutions and funders, it supports a comprehensive range of transformative deals, pure OA agreements, membership discounts, and other financial arrangements between publishers and institutions, providing real-time transaction data for all stakeholders.
