Attending the European Continuing Medical Education (CME) Forum? Here Are 5 Session Picks

FAIR data principles – making data Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable – are essential elements in enabling organizations to maximize the value of their digital assets.

These themes are the topic of the Pharma Documentation Ring’s (P-D-R) special meeting, ‘FAIRification of external data: Breaking down the data silos’ on May 21-22 in London, UK. Copyright Clearance Center will be represented at this special meeting by Robin Bramley, Principal Solution Architect, Mike Iarrobino, Senior Product Manager, and Lauren Tulloch, Vice President and Managing Director.

“What’s in a Name? Ambiguity!”

During the two-day conference, Robin will present a lightning talk and a poster case study of linking open government health care data sets with enriched scientific literature. The presentation is focused on the data integration challenges, whilst the angle of the poster is about using graph technology to identify crosswalk paths to investigate.

“What’s in a Name? Ambiguity!” explores the integration issues that can be faced when the FAIR principles haven’t been adopted by data custodians. Instead of being able to use interoperable, unambiguous identifiers, a fall-back position is to rely on name-based entity resolution. Even in a domain such as pharmaceutical drugs, with International Nonproprietary Names published by the World Health Organization, there are pitfalls when data sets come from multiple providers who offer different methods of data access. Even with open data sets, licensing has a key part to play – this point will be illustrated during the poster session.

We look forward to the discussions at the P-D-R special meeting and to helping make data access FAIRer. You can view the full list of speakers, breakout sessions, and more here.

In this role he has one eye on emerging technologies and the other on architectural governance across all Ixxus projects & proposals. Robin established and chairs the Ixxus Architecture Review Board and also provides internal architecture training. Prior to Ixxus, Robin spent 5 years at Opsera as Technical Manager with responsibility across product and consulting divisions. Near the start of his 20 years in the technology consulting industry, Robin worked on projects to surface related data from disparate sources, and leverage Artificial Intelligence with ontologies to identify clusters of content. It doesn’t take much pattern recognition to see that cycle repeating itself!
