UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) has launched a consultation on its proposed Open Access policy and related considerations to gain input from stakeholders. In this webinar, we will review and discuss:

  • Details of the proposed policy, including how it addresses Hybrid OA, transformative agreements, licensing considerations, compliance efforts, and more
  • How it stacks up against developments in Europe (Plan S) and the United States (potential White House Executive Order or action)
  • Impact of these potential changes to publishers
  • A live Q&A

Join CCC’s Christopher Kenneally, David Prosser, Executive Director at Research Libraries UK, and Rob Johnson, Founder and Director, Research Consulting, as we explore the future of open access policy and transformative agreements.

Speakers:

Easy access to information, along with the growing use of OERs (Open Educational Resources), can put schools at greater risk for copyright infringement. To minimize this risk, teachers, administrators, and curriculum developers should have a cursory understanding of U.S. copyright law and the implications of using and sharing copyrighted information in the classroom (in both print and digital form), as well as in student assessments and other materials. In this webinar, we’ll look at important concerns surrounding the use of copyright-protected content within the
K-12 environment.

Beneficial as both an initial exposure to copyright, as well as a refresher for those who contend with these issues regularly, Copyright Basics for K-12 is appropriate for teachers, curriculum developers, librarians, administrators and anyone who wants to gain a basic understanding of the principles and guidelines of U.S. copyright law.

It can become a juggling act to balance the library’s performance and your own professional needs alongside the larger organizational ROI.

Join CCC and information expert Jill Shuman for a half hour presentation geared toward professionals in small or solo information services settings. Jill will discuss how to manage your time and your budget, how to market your services to the larger organization, and how to make sure you don’t burn out in the process.

About the Presenter:

Jill Shuman has more than 25 years of experience as a library director and information professional at both large and small life science companies. She lectures frequently on topics related to copyright, library administration, literature searching and management, and contract negotiation.

The OASPA Webinar Series is delighted to focus its final webinar of 2019 on the current realities of academic culture from the perspective of the PhD student. The hypercompetitive grant, tenure and evaluation system that rewards researchers on the basis of a very limited set of outputs directly impacts the way research is practised, communicated and published. What is the impact of this culture on those right at the start of their career? What is their perspective on our academic culture, and how we share and publish scholarly knowledge and what role do they see for openness and open access? The panellists will each speak for 15 minutes, followed by a short group panel discussion and we will then open it up to questions from the audience.

We are delighted to hear from three PhD students:

  • Noemie Aubert Bonn on Research Integrity and Open Science
  • Nadia Soliman on Leadership in Academia, and how this relates topublishing
  • Gareth O’Neill on the PhD perspective on academic culture, and Open Access policies such as Plan S.

Life science organizations are embracing the digital revolution, but digital transformation demands data transformation, and this includes developing strategies to access information buried in unstructured text. Many top pharma and healthcare organizations are using the power of Natural Language Processing (NLP) to transform unstructured text into actionable structured data that can be rapidly visualized and analyzed, for decision support from bench to bedside. In this webinar, we will present use cases from pharma, including effective text mining of scientific abstracts and full text papers for rare disease insights.
