Scientific knowledge is expanding both in terms of peer-reviewed articles published and in the types and formats of relevant information. Peer-reviewed scientific research in more and more specialized fields, clinical trials data, conference proceedings and posters, business news and regulatory filings, patents, government datasets, and internal research and data all contain information valuable to researchers. However, much of this information is either unstructured or in data streams that do not permit easy interoperability. So how can information managers find strategic roles to play in their organization’s AI and data analysis projects?

As machine learning and text and data mining projects are getting launched within organizations, information managers have an opportunity to serve in consultative roles within their organizations to encourage the use of better data and workflow processes. One of the areas in which they can make the most contribution is in introducing user groups to the impact of semantic enrichment of internal and external content and the importance of data cleansing. Join us on May 28, when Mary Ellen Bates will explore the importance of making information FAIR (findable, accessible, interoperable and reusable) through the use of semantic enrichment.

Knowledge management is not a new process in business. Companies have always taken steps, both formal and informal, to preserve data, information, and expertise over time and across business stakeholders. The concept of information management isn’t new either; organizations have curated externally sourced information from sources like academic journals since well before the digital age.

But in today’s R&D organizations, from a strategic point of view, there is a need to rethink how R&D intensive organizations deal with knowledge and information. On May 14, join Phill Jones of Double L Digital for a 30-minute webinar as he shares the results of recent interviews with individuals in the R&D information landscape. From knowledge managers to information scientists to senior research scientists, Phill will share perspectives and strategic advice for the future of data, knowledge and information management.

Easy access to information, along with the growing use of OERs (Open Educational Resources), can put schools at greater risk for copyright infringement. To minimize this risk, teachers, administrators, and curriculum developers should have a cursory understanding of U.S. copyright law and the implications of using and sharing copyrighted information in the classroom (in both print and digital form), as well as in student assessments and other materials. In this webinar, we’ll look at important concerns surrounding the use of copyright-protected content within the
K-12 environment.

Beneficial as both an initial exposure to copyright, as well as a refresher for those who contend with these issues regularly, Copyright Basics for K-12 is appropriate for teachers, curriculum developers, librarians, administrators and anyone who wants to gain a basic understanding of the principles and guidelines of U.S. copyright law.

Today’s information professionals wear many hats. On top of traditional role requirements, such as creating an environment where content is readily accessible, you’re also tasked with proving the value of your services to the larger organization. It can become a juggling act to balance the library’s performance and your own professional needs alongside the larger organizational ROI.

Join CCC and information expert Jill Shuman for a half hour presentation geared toward professionals in small or solo information services settings. Jill will discuss how to manage your time and your budget, how to market your services to the larger organization, and how to make sure you don’t burn out in the process.

About the Presenter:

Jill Shuman has more than 25 years of experience as a library director and information professional at both large and small life science companies. She lectures frequently on topics related to copyright, library administration, literature searching and management, and contract negotiation.
