Enhancements to Copyright Clearance Center's RightSphere Add Powerful New Rights Management Capabilities

DANVERS, Mass., April 24, 2008—Copyright Clearance Center (CCC) today announced a set of major enhancements to RightSphere, the company's award-winning rights advisory and management tool. Driven by input from leading corporate information managers and librarians, these changes make it possible to manage complex rights and licenses with precision and speed.

Launched in 2006, RightSphere has been adopted by global leaders in the pharmaceutical, aerospace and consumer goods industries. The Web-based application allows general counsels, information managers and corporate librarians to automate rights management at a highly granular level so that the value of expensive site licenses are maximized and the nuances of corporate content use policies are instantly communicated at the point of use to employees around the globe.

RightSphere's comprehensive administrative application covers a wide range of content use activities, such as sharing content in a PowerPoint presentation; within government and regulatory submissions; and in CD-ROMs and flash drives. It also takes into account "time bound rights"—restrictions on content use within time periods specified by a license agreement. In addition, RightSphere incorporates context; for example, geographic, subscription and spending boundaries can be centrally managed.

RightSphere is designed for companies that place high value on knowledge collaboration and rapid innovation. It includes a robust database for content license terms from all sources—publishers, content aggregators and others. In addition, the tool generates reports on content usage to help companies fully leverage content assets and guide their information buying decisions.

"RightSphere today lets companies realize even more value from their critical site licenses and subscriptions," said Bill Burger, CCC's Vice President of Marketing. "These enhancements automate complex areas of rights management, giving information managers a tool to manage rights with precision and power. We've worked closely with RightSphere customers to ensure that the new capabilities address their most pressing rights management needs."

Because RightSphere is a hosted service and requires no hardware or software installations by the customer, the upgrade is automatically delivered to RightSphere customers. Companies currently using the service include AstraZeneca, Baxter, Eli Lilly, Novartis, Pfizer and Philip Morris.
