Copyright Clearance Center's Online Solution Helps Blackwell Address Growth in Permission Requests
DANVERS, Mass., May 31, 2006—Copyright Clearance Center (CCC), the world's premier provider of copyright licensing and compliance solutions, today announced that Blackwell Publishing has selected RightsLink® as its automated, online permissions licensing solution. Blackwell Publishing, the world's leading society publisher which publishes more than 800 scholarly journals and has more than 6,000 books in print, is using RightsLink to instantly license customer requests to reuse content from its journals.
The global publisher processes more than 2,000 permission requests per month, a volume that has grown at an annual rate of between 5 and 10 percent.
“We have used CCC for permissions licensing for years, so it was a natural step to adopt RightsLink as well,” said Karen Gibson, Associate Rights Director, Blackwell Publishing. “It is a highly intuitive solution that makes it easy for customers anywhere in the world to request permission to re-use material from Blackwell's journals. By dealing with routine permissions requests, RightsLink has enabled our staff to focus on more complex customer needs. We view RightsLink as a major component of our overall customer service strategy.”
RightsLink enables Blackwell customers to secure permissions for digital content directly from their online platform, www.blackwell-synergy.com. The Web-based solution has reduced Blackwell's administrative burden, while helping to improve turnaround times.
“RightsLink's flexible and customizable interface has enabled Blackwell to implement the service to reflect its unique workflow and business models,” said Michael Joyce, RightsLink Business Manager, CCC. “RightsLink is the ideal solution for Blackwell, which seeks to offer improved customer service and to have its publications used as widely as possible.”
