Tracey L. Armstrong
President and Chief Executive Officer                                                  

Tracey Armstrong is the President and Chief Executive Officer at Copyright Clearance Center, bringing more than 20 years of experience in rights management with CCC to the industry. Leading the organization through a period of phenomenal change and challenge, Tracey has helped transform CCC's licensing solutions to meet the needs of today's digital publishing world.

Tracey works with publishers, authors, universities, businesses and industry associations around the world, addressing copyright concerns and establishing new alliances. In addition, she frequently speaks at industry conferences and events as a thought leader on digital copyright licensing issues.

Tracey holds an MBA from Northeastern University and on the boards of not-for-profit organizations including Harborlight Community Partners.


Gretchen Gasser-Ellis

 

Gretchen L. Gasser-Ellis
Vice President, Operations                                                                

Gretchen Gasser-Ellis is Copyright Clearance Center's VP, Operations.  Gretchen oversees Customer Service, Professional Services, the Project Office, Educational Services and Data Systems & Services.  Gretchen has been at CCC for more than 10 years, most recently as Chief Information Officer, and formerly as Director of RightsLink.  Prior to CCC, Gretchen worked in IT consulting at Whitman-Hart and in project management roles at Camp, Dresser and McKee and DuPont.  Gretchen has a bachelor of business administration degree from the University of Michigan and an MBA from Boston University.


Frederic Haber

Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary                                           

Frederic Haber is Vice President, Secretary and General Counsel of Copyright Clearance Center. He is responsible for all of CCC's legal affairs, including the legal aspects of its copyright licensing business. He has participated in the development of each of CCC's licensing programs and counsels senior management in the development of new programs.

Prior to joining CCC, Fred was a senior attorney at the original corporate parent of the Macy's chain of department stores. Before that, Fred was of counsel to the New York City-based law firm of Weil, Gotshal & Manges, LLP, practicing intellectual property, trade regulation and antitrust law. He holds bachelor's, master's, and law degrees from schools of Harvard University. Fred is admitted to practice law in Massachusetts, New York and Connecticut.


Thomas M. Hamilton

Tom Hamilton, VP Business and Technology Affairs, joined Copyright Clearance Center in December 2005 as CIO.  Tom is currently working on several key strategic initiatives. Tom was previously VP, Product and Systems Development / CTO for ProQuest Information and Learning, where he led its major PQ Next product platform release.   He came to ProQuest from MD Consult, where he was VP, Technology during its startup and launch.  Prior, he was with LexisNexis for 22 years in a variety of editorial, online software engineering and product management roles, including Internet Program Manager.  Tom is a graduate of The Ohio State University.


Michael Healy

 

Michael Healy
Executive Director, Author & Publisher Relations                                                        

Michael Healy is the Executive Director (Author and Publisher Relations) at the Copyright Clearance Center (CCC).  Prior to joining CCC, Michael was Executive Director of The Book Rights Registry, and previously Executive Director of the Book Industry Study Group, a New York-based non-profit body dedicated to improving the efficiency of the book industry by providing standards, research, education and information.  Michael has worked in the book industry for more than 25 years and has spent most of that time in senior editorial, sales and distribution roles in digital publishing.  He has been closely involved in the development of standards for the international book trade, and is particularly associated with standards for metadata, product information and electronic commerce.  Michael has led many international standards groups, was Chairman of the International ISBN Agency, a Director of the International DOI Foundation, and led the international ISO committee that developed ISBN-13.


Roy S. Kaufman

Roy Kaufman is Managing Director of New Ventures and is responsible for expanding service capabilities as CCC moves into new markets and services.  Prior to CCC, Kaufman served as Legal Director, Wiley-Blackwell, John Wiley and Sons, Inc.  He is a member of the Bar of the State of New York and formerly a member of, among other things, the Copyright Committee of the International Association of Scientific Technical and Medical Publishers and the legal working group of ORCID (Open Researcher & Contributor ID) project.  He formerly chaired the legal working group of CrossRef, which he helped to form.  He speaks frequently on issues of copyright, artists’ rights and anti-piracy, having presented to groups including: AAP’s Rights and Permissions Advisory Committee, the New York City Bar Association, the Evangelical Christian Publisher’s Association and Nurture Art.  Roy is Editor-in-Chief of Art Law Handbook: From Antiquities to the Internet and author of two books on publishing contract law. He has lectured extensively on the subjects of copyright, licensing, new media, artists’ rights, and art law.  Roy is a graduate of Brandeis University (B.A., European Cultural Studies) and Columbia Law School (J.D.), where he served as Executive Notes Editor of the Columbia-VLA Journal of Law and the Arts. 


Haralambos Marmanis

Haralambos “Babis” Marmanis is Copyright Clearance Center’s Chief Technology Officer and Vice President, Software Engineering. Babis is responsible for driving the technology vision and the implementation of all software systems at CCC. He brings over 17 years of experience in computing, with proven success in leading software development teams. Prior to CCC, Babis was the CTO at Emptoris, a leader of supply and contract management software solutions. He also worked at Zeborg, a provider of analytic software for expenses, and Truexchange, a real-time trading and risk management software system. He is a published book author in business and technology, and he also published numerous papers in academic journals and technical periodicals. Babis holds a PhD in applied mathematics from Brown University, and an MSc from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He was the recipient of the Sigma-Xi innovation award and an NSF graduate fellow at Brown.

Vice President, Licensing and Business Development                         

Miles McNamee joined Copyright Clearance Center in 2008 as Vice President, Licensing and Business Development, overseeing business development efforts and licensing of all CCC products and services.  He works with rightsholders to create licensing solutions that better monetize emerging multimedia and online publishing initiatives.  Miles brings 20 years of experience in business development, sales and marketing from companies such as Starz Encore Group LLC, Microware Systems, TCI, Continental Cablevision and Showtime Networks. He holds a bachelor of science in marketing from Bryant College.


Michele R. Nivens

Vice President, Strategic Corporate Initiatives

Michele R. Nivens joined Copyright Clearance Center in 2006.  As Vice President, Strategic Corporate Initiatives, Michele is responsible for marketing & communications as well as talent acquisition, management and development.  Prior to joining CCC, she served as the Vice President of Human Resources for Software.com from start-up to profitable post-IPO venture and merger to create Openwave. She also served as Vice President of Human Resources for BBN Systems and Technologies during the years of its Internet backbone build out and ultimate acquisition by GTE. Michele earned her master's degree from the Harvard Graduate School of Education and holds her bachelor of science in management from the University of Massachusetts, Boston.


Richard A. Ruf

 

Richard A. Ruf
Vice President, Treasurer, and Chief Financial Officer                                   

Richard Ruf is the Finance Vice President, CFO and Treasurer.  Richard has been with Copyright Clearance Center since 2000 and is responsible for finance as well as royalty payment processing.  Rich's past experience includes leadership roles at REP Environmental Processes, Laventhol & Horwath, CPAs and Don J. Guarnieri, CPAs.  Richard received a bachelor of science degree in accounting from Virginia Tech and an MBA from Suffolk University, and is a certified public accountant.


Emily Sheehan

 

Emily Sheahan
General Manager and Executive Director                                                    

Emily Sheahan is General Manager and Executive Director.  As a member of CCC’s Office of the President, Emily works closely with Tracey Armstrong on strategic priorities.  She is also primarily responsible for Pubget.  Emily joined CCC from HCPro where she was Group Publisher.  She was responsible for multiple acquisitions.  She has defined and implemented numerous product life-cycle initiatives and launches.  Prior to her role as Group Publisher, Emily held a number of management positions at HCPro where she drove strategy, research, development, production and profitability of all products and services in seven key healthcare and regulation markets.  Emily was also responsible for licensing and syndication of content to software providers, associations and other business partners.  

Emily came to HCPro from NBC News –KULR where she was Capital Bureau Chief.  Emily is a member of the Specialized Information Publisher’s Association where she served as the 2011 Conference Track Co-Chair and speaker.  Emily earned her Master of Science in Journalism from Emerson College and she holds a Bachelor of Science in Corporate Communications from Ithaca College.  


Kim Zwollo

 

Kim Zwollo

Kim Zwollo is General Manager, responsible for establishing and leading the RightsDirect organization, building key relationships throughout Europe, and driving the overall growth of European corporate license sales. Prior to joining RightsDirect Kim worked for Springer Science and Business Media in various international roles. Most recently he was Executive Vice President Sales for the EMEA region, which included responsibility for Third Party Licensing and Rights and Permissions. Kim has also served in sales and management roles for media companies including DMD Secure (digital rights management), Elsevier Science and others. Kim holds a master's degree in Medical Biology from the University of Utrecht in the Netherlands.
