The Conference on Fair Use (CONFU) attempted to develop guidelines to help define the standards for e-reserves. The draft CONFU guidelines are not law and are not part of the Copyright Act. It is generally accepted that reserves are limited to one semester or less in duration. Reserves are subject to the fair use guidelines. The leading library associations and the Association of American Publishers have issued guidelines to assist in the fair use analysis for reserves.
